This chapter contextualises the socio-political and socio-economic circumstances in which each generation of women’s lives was situated, presents a broader picture of the generational eras and briefly explains the family dynamics and attitudes towards their education and the key aspects of their teaching experiences (a summary-table of the women and their ‘key characteristics’ is given in Appendix B). This chapter does not give a detailed account of each generation and woman, but teases out the rigour in women’s lives in order to make sense of their experiences in Chaps. 5, 6 and 7. It also explains my label for each generation of women without suggesting that interviewees from respective generation are all alike. Lastly, the practical processes of data collection and analyses are explained, including some ethical and evaluative considerations. © 2017, The Author(s).
