MOBILE VISUAL ACUITY ASSESSMENT APPLICATION: AcuMob
(Istanbul Univ, Fac Engineering, 2017) Akbulut, Akhan; Aydin, Muhammed Ali; Zaim, Abdul Halim
This paper presents a mobile healthcare (mHealth) system for estimation of visual impairment that provides easiness by specifying the degree of an eye as orthoscopes. Our proposed system called AcuMob which is an Android based mobile application aimed to be used by patients who have myopia. In the crowd society, our proposed app will be implemented faster than the traditional ophthalmologic examination treatments as an alternative. Because AcuMob can be used in everywhere in any time slot, it is offered in the area where the ophthalmologist is not available. The system is developed with using Xamarin framework and voice commands are used to interact with mobile app. Some preferable letters that are suggested by the ophthalmologists were used in the system. The letter categories are specified according to letters' sizes. In the start-up screen, the biggest letter is demonstrated and if the user responds correct answer, the letter's size is being smaller. However, if the user says wrong answer three times consecutively, eyesight ratio is produced by the system to the user referencing to Snellen Chart's information. This article has aimed at making a prediction about the visual impairment's degree. Thanks to AcuMob, people can get idea about their visual acuity without consulting to an eye medical doctor (MD). For the evaluation of systems' reliability, field tests were performed at Bayrampasa Goz Vakfi Hospital in Istanbul with two ophthalmologist specialists. At the end of trials, the actual diagnosed degrees and the equivalent degree of eyesight ratios according to Snellen Chart's information is compared and the success rates are shown. The system achieved at the 65% of average success rate, which can give users an idea about current condition of their visions.

(Ege Univ, 2018) Basyigit, Zeynep Omerogullari; Kut, Duck; Yenilmez, Evrim; Eyupoglu, Seyda; Hocaoglu, Emel; Yazan, Yasemin
Skin fights constantly during the day to be saved from free radicals caused by UV rays and pollution. However, skin cells repair damage and restore complexion during sleep. Enhancement of repair and restoration can be achieved more effectively by the cosmetic products such as antioxidants applied during night. In this study, functional fabrics were prepared for single- use which are impregnated with three different delivery systems containing vitamin E, the mostly known antioxidant ingredient. Comparison of vitamin E release from microcapsule, microemulsion and solid lipid nanoparticle systems embedded in polypropylene fabrics (PP) was aimed in this study. Final purpose of preparing a cosmetotextile for ocular area was to obtain prolonged activity of vitamin E. Following particle size measurement and scanning electron microscopic analyses of all delivery systems prepared, systems embedded in polypropylene nonwoven fabrics were tested for vitamin E meant to be released over time. According to the results obtained, vitamin E was found to be successfully incorporated into all three delivery systems and release of vitamin E was determined to be prolonged best by solid lipid nanoparticles.

Some Double Lacunary Sequence Spaces defined by Orlicz Functions
    (Southeast Asian Mathematical Soc-Seams, 2011) Savas, E.; Patterson, R. F.
In this paper we introduce a new concept for lacunary strong P-convergent with respect to an Orlicz function and examine some properties of the resulting sequence space. We also show that if a sequence is lacunary strong P-convergence with respect to an Orlicz function then it is 8 theta(r,s),-convergent. In addition, lacunary strong P-convergent with respect to an Orlicz function is compared to other summability methods.

(Univ Osijek, Tech Fac, 2014) Demetgul, Mustafa; Yazicioglu, Osman; Kentli, Aykut
In this study, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is developed to find faults rapidly on a pneumatic system. The data were saved and evaluated considering system is working perfectly and faults are predetermined. These faults include having no bottle, a nonworking cap closing cylinder B, a nonworking bottle cap closing cylinder C, insufficient air pressure, water not filling and low air pressure faults. The signals of six sensors were collected during the entire sequence and the 18 most descriptive features of the data were encoded to present to the ANNs. Two different ANNs were applied for interpretation of the encoded signals. The ANNs tested in the study were learning vector quantization (LVQ) and radial basis network (RBN). The performance of LVQ and RBN was found to be fine with the presented procedures for a system having very repetitive sequential data.

    ASYMPTOTIC EQUIVALENCE OF DOUBLE SEQUENCES
(Hacettepe Univ, Fac Sci, 2012) Patterson, Richard F.; Savas, Ekrem
The goal of this paper is to present a four-dimensional matrix characterization of asymptotic equivalence of double sequences. This will be accomplished with the following notion of asymptotic equivalence of double sequences. Two double sequences are asymptotic equivalent if and only if P - lim(k), (l) x(k,) (l)/y(k,) (l) =1, where x and y are selected judicially. Using this notion necessary and sufficient conditions on the entries of a four-dimensional matrix are given to ensure that the transformation will preserve asymptotic equivalence.

ADAPTIVE WIENER-TURBO SYSTEM AND ADAPTIVE WIENER-TURBO SYSTEMS WITH JPEG & BIT PLANE COMPRESSIONS
(Istanbul Univ, Fac Engineering, 2007) Buyukatak, Kenan; Ucan, Osman N.; Gose, Ersin; Osman, Onur; Kent, Sedef
In order to improve unequal error protection and compression ratio of 2-D colored images over wireless environment, we propose two new schemes denoted as Adaptive Wiener-Turbo System (AWTS) and Adaptive Wiener-Turbo Systems with JPEG & Bit Plane Compressions (AW-TSwJBC). In AW-TS, there is a feedback link between Wiener filtering and Turbo decoder and process iteratively. The scheme employs a pixel-wise adaptive Wiener-based Turbo decoder and uses statistics (mean and standard deviation of local image) of estimated values of local neighborhood of each pixel. It has extra-ordinary satisfactory results of both bit error rate (BER) and image enhancement performance for less than 2 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) values, compared to separately application of traditional turbo coding scheme and 2-D filtering. In AW-TSwJBC scheme, 2-D colored image is passed through a color & bit planes' slicer block. In this block, each pixel of the input image is partitioned up to three main color planes as R, G, B and each pixel of the color planes is sliced up to N binary bit planes, which corresponds to binary representation of pixels. Thus depending on importance of information knowledge of the input image, pixels of each color plane can be represented by fewer number of bit planes. Then they are compressed by JPEG prior to turbo encoder. Hence, two consecutive compressions are achieved regarding the input image. In 2-D images, information is mainly carried by neighbors of pixels. Here, we benefit of neighborhood relation of pixels for each color plane by using a new iterative block, named as Adaptive Wiener-Turbo scheme, which employs Turbo decoder, JPEG encoder/decoders and Adaptive Wiener Filtering.

DEVELOPING COMPUTATIONAL FLUENCY WITH THE HELP OF SCIENCE: A TURKISH MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADES STUDY
(Turkish Online Journal Educational Tech-Tojet, 2011) Corlu, M. Sencer; Capraro, Robert M.; Corlu, M. Ali
Students need to achieve automaticity in learning mathematics without sacrificing conceptual understanding of the algorithms that are essential in being successful in algebra and problem solving, as well as in science. This research investigated the relationship between science-contextualized problems and computational fluency by testing an instructional method that was implemented as a non-traditional drill exercise. The study employed a quantitative analysis of pre- and post-test scores of Turkish middle and high school students after two interventions. The questions addressed were: Do the science-contextualized drill practices (SCP) improve students' computational fluency better than traditional drill practices (TP)? Is there any statistical significance between middle and high school students in terms of their benefit from SCP? This study showed that science-contextualized drill exercises produced higher gains for both middle and high school students' computational fluencies than the traditional context-free drill exercises.

ANALYZING ACTIVATION ENERGY AND BINARY CHEMICAL REACTION EFFECTS WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPROACH IN AXISYMMETRIC FLOW OF THIRD GRADE NANOFLUID SUBJECT TO SORET AND DUFOUR EFFECTS
(Begell House Inc, 2023) Shafiq, Anum; Colak, Andac Batur; Sindhu, Tabassum Naz
The use of nanotechnology has led to the design of many modern and more cost-effective implementation, such as solar power generation, the redevelopment of heat exchangers, and the modernization of the medical and pharmaceutical industries. In this study, the combined effects of activation energy with binary chemical reactant in a steady magnetohydrodynamic mixed convective third-grade nanofluid flow by radially radiative stretching plate has been analyzed with an artificial intelligence approach. Heat transfer analysis was conducted with heat generation, Joule heating, and Soret and Dufour effects. By incorporating appropriate transformations, the initial nonlinear coupled partial differential equations expressing the fluid model were formed as a comparable nonlinear ordinary differential equations system. Three different artificial neural network models were proposed in order to predict the skin friction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number values of the fluid model by the Shooting Runge-Kutta Fehlberg 4, technique using the data set created by taking various values of the relevant parameters. It is worthy of noting that the average deviation values for each output parameter remained less than 5%. Furthermore it is also observed that mean square error values for skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, and local Sherwood number values were attained as 3.63 x 10(-3), 4.03 x 10(-4), and 8.62 x 10(-3), respectively. The obtained results show that artificial neural networks are an engineering tool that can be used with high accuracy to estimate the combined effects of activation energy and binary chemical reaction in a fixed magnetohydrodynamic mixed convective third-grade nanofluid flow with a radial radiative stretched plate.

The Role of Mindfulness between Childhood Abuse and Trait Anxiety
(Turkish Psychologists Assoc, 2018) Cesur, Gizem; Sayrac, Neslihan; Korkmaz, Ece
Mindfulness is a recent interesting concept that is known to be a protective trait in terms of psychological well-being (Branstrom et al., 2011) and it is being used as a psychological intervention method (Kimbrough et al., 2010). The main purpose of this study was to examine the direct effect of childhood traumatic experiences on trait anxiety as well as its indirect (mediated) effect through mindfulness. The sample of the study consisted of 467 participants; 264 female (56.5%) and 203 male (43.5%). The average age of the sample was 22.89 (SD = 3.34). Demographic Information Form, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale and Trait Anxiety Inventory were used to collect data. The mediator role of the mindfulness was examined with PROCESS macro by Hayes (2013). Results indciated that mindfulness plays a mediating role between childhood abuse and neglect experiences and trait anxiety. Consequently, studying childhood traumatic experiences and trait anxiety with mindfulness is thought to provide a comprehensive explanation on this issue. It could also provide valuable knowledge and insights on intervention and prevention studies.

AUTOMATIC COLON SEGMENTATION USING CELLULAR NEURAL NETWORK FOR THE DETECTION OF COLORECTAL POLYPS
(Istanbul Univ, Fac Engineering, 2007) Kilic, Niyazi; Osman, Onur; Ucan, Osman N.; Demirel, Kemal
In this paper, an automatic colon segmentation method for Computed Tomography (CT) colonography is presented. Colon segmentation is considered in order to prevent the time consumption while searching polyps out of the colon region and reduce radiologists' interpretation time. The proposed method is the combination of pre-processing and Cellular Neural Networks (CNN). Also recurrent perceptron learning algorithm (RPLA) is used for CNN training. Original CT images are passed through a threshold and then CNN is used to erase unrelated small objects and smooth sharp corners. It is expected automatic colon segmentation will improve the radiologists' diagnostic performance.

CONSTRUCTION OF NEURAL NETWORK BASED INTELLIGENT COMPUTING FOR TREATMENT OF DARCY-FORCHHEIMER SISKO NANOFLUID FLOW WITH ROSSELAND'S RADIATIVE PROCESS
(Begell House Inc, 2023) Shafiq, Anum; Colak, Andac Batur; Sindhu, Tabassum Naz
A generalization of Newtonian and power-law fluids is the Sisko model. It foretells dilatants and fluid pseudoplas-ticity. It was first suggested to use the Sisko fluid model to gauge high shear rates in lubricating greases. Three constants in this model are easily selectable for certain fluids, and it is demonstrated that the model is a good predictor of shear thickening and thinning. The study of nanofluids is gaining popularity quickly because of unique thermal, mechanical, and chemical characteristics of nanomaterials. Sisko nanofluids are also required for the production of nanoscale materials because of the superb wetting and dispersing capabilities they possess. In the present investigation, the Levenberg-Marquardt method with backpropagated neural networks is used to evaluate the nanomaterial flow of Darcy-Forchheimer Sisko fluid model. Thermophoresis and Brownian motion effects are considered when develop-ing the nanofluid model. By applying the necessary transformations, the original nonlinear coupled partial differential system representing fluidic model are converted to an analogous nonlinear ordinary differential system. For different fluid model scenarios, a dataset for the proposed multilayer perceptron artificial neural network is produced by altering the necessary variables via the Galerkin weighted residual approach. An artificial neural network called a multilayer perceptron has been created in order to forecast the multilayer perceptron values.

An Epistemological Analysis of Folklore that Affects The Development of Success Culture
(Geleneksel Yayincilik Ltd Stl, 2022) Aydin Kasimoglu, Handan; Altin, Ayaz Yusuf; Kasimoglu, Murat
This study examines how folklore affects social structure epistemologically. It also deals with the effects of societies on collective attitude. In this framework, considering the scientific approach and framework of folklore, Geert Hofstede's model was evaluated. Action-oriented structure and system developments are evaluated within the framework of the structural features of model societies. It is very crucial to understand the culture that determines the basic competitive power of societies, especially in the global system. The main factors that direct the level of participation have a great impact on the success of societies. In this framework, the basic features of Turkish culture have been analyzed over the basic dimensions developed by Hofstede. The basic values and attitudes of our social structure from past to present have been determined. Thus, it will be possible to evaluate how the development, change and transformation of our own values will develop especially in the digitalized new age. The great digital transformation experienced in every field today affects the basic epistemology of folklore and creates new paths. Understanding these new sprouts is also important for understanding the basic dynamics of our country and for policy making. As a result, when we consider culture from the folklore perspective, epics, tales and intangible heritages have an important place. With these approaches, it is possible to evaluate the structure of Turkish culture in the global system comparatively with folklore epistemology based on evidence. Evaluating the subject through the structural relationship of these areas with each other provides us detailed information about the decisions, tendencies, togetherness and shared values of societies. The study deals with the values of the societies that are passed down from generation to generation through folklore. Historically developing structures especially affect individuals' behavior and attitudes. Epistemology of folklore, fairy tales, folk songs and similar tools develop predictive models for the development of the characteristics of societies. This facilitates the transition of societies to the next stage and supports a more competitive structure. The study was guided by a comprehensive literature review, conceptual model design, and evaluation of empirical data. As a result, the values of societies develop under the influence of many factors over time, by developing themes and predictions that are very difficult to change. Therefore, analyzing the parameters of folklore, which is the most basic parameter of these processes, in an eclectic framework reveals a deep vision for the future. Considering the six dimensions of Turkish culture, especially the framework of the field, which has a deep conceptual scope such as folklore, it is important for our country's policies to form macro-meso and micro-level policies. In the process of creating a society focused on education, entrepreneurship, development and success, a framework has been developed by taking into account the basic framework of folklore epistemology. Thus, the effect and relationship of folklore on social success and development has been revealed.
