Özet
Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyete geçiş döneminde edebiyatçı, gazeteci, öğretim üyesi ve siyasetçi olarak önemli roller üstlenmiş olan Halde Edib Adıvar, 1950’de Demokrat Parti (DP) listesinden bağımsız olarak milletvekili seçilmiş ve siyasi hayatını 1954’e kadar sürdürmüştür. Halde Edib’in milletvekili olduğu dönemde, 1945’te öz Türkçeleştirilmiş olan 1924 Anayasası’nın dil bakımından yenden ele alınması gündeme gelmiş, Halde Edib de bu konuda görüşlerin açıklamıştır. Halde Edib hakkında geniş sayılabilecek bir literatür bulunmasına rağmen kendisinin Anayasanın dil hakkındaki görüşlerin değerlendiren bir çalışmanın mevcut olmadığı görülmektedir. DP döneminde ilkin 1924 Anayasası’nın köktenci bir öz Türkçecilik anlayışından uzak bir şekilde sadeleştirilmesi söz konusu olmuştur. Bununla birlikte bu yöndeki çalışmalar 1924 Anayasası’nın ilk metninin yenden yürürlüğe konulması le sonuçlanmıştır. Yaygın kanaatin aksine 1924 Anayasası’nın ilk metninin yenden yürürlüğe konulmasında DP içinde görüş birliği yoktur. Bu konuda dönemin Başbakanı Adnan Menderes’in müdahalesi etkili bir rol oynamıştır. Bu çalışma Halde Edib’in, görüşlerindeki bütün çelişkilere rağmen ılımlı bir öz Türkçeciliğe sıcak baktığını, 1924 Anayasası’nın ilk metninin yenden yürürlüğe konulmasını savunmadığını ortaya koymaktadır.
Halide Edib Adıvar, who played significant roles as a writer, journalist, academic, and politician during the transition period from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, was elected as an independent deputy in 1950 from the Democratic Party (DP) list, serving in politics until 1954. During her term as a parliamentariani the issue of revising the language of the 1924 Constitution, which had been translated into pure Turkish in 1945, came to the agenda. Halide Edib expressed her views on this matter. Although there is a relatively broad literature on Halide Edib, there has been no study specifically evaluating her views on the language of the Constitution. During the DP period, initially the 1924 Constitution simplified in a manner that was far from a radical understanding of purification of Turkish. However, these efforts ultimately led to the reenactment of the first text of the 1924 Constitution. Contrary to common belief, there was no consensus within the DP regarding the re-enactment of the first of the 1924 Constitution. The intervention of the Prime Minister at the time, Adnan Menderes, played a decisive role in this regard. This study reveals that, despite the contradictions in her views, Halide Edib was inclined towards a moderate form of Turkish language reform and did not Support the reenactment of the first text of the 1924 Constitution.
