Abstract
Günümüzde sosyal medya, ağ toplumunun yükselişine bağlı olarak çeşitli araştırmacılar tarafından, demokrasiye yapacağı katkılar çerçevesinde olumlu bir açıdan ele alınmaktadır. Ancak diğer taraftan sosyal medyanın pratikte kullanım biçimleri incelendiğinde; gözetim merkezli ve birey mahremiyetini ihlal edici özelliği ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bu çerçeveden bakıldığında sosyal medyanın, Foucault’nun formülasyonuna uygun olarak bir “gözetim toplumu” yaratılmasının baş aktörüne dönüştüğü söylenebilir. Bu çalışmada, Facebook toplumsal paylaşım sitesi, mahrem alanın, kimliklerin ve bedenin kamusallaştığı, denetimin/gözetimin gözetlenen tarafından meşru kılındığı; internet öznesinin aynı anda röntgenci, teşhirci ve muhbir olmayı başarabildiği, sözde serbest zamanın özgürce kullanılabildiği bir alan olarak değerlendirilebilir.
Today, social media is evaluated in a positive sense by various researchers, due to its contributions to democracy by the rise of the network society. But on the other hand, when the ways of practical use of social media is analyzed, it’s characteristics as being surveillance centered and violating the privacy of individuals becomes prominent. From this point of view, it can be said that social media is transformed to the lead actor of creating a “surveillance society”, in accordance with Foucault’s formulation. In this study, Facebook social networking site can be evaluated as a space where the area of rivacy, identity, and body becomes public, control/surveillance is legalized by the person being surveilled, internet subject ucceeds to be the voyeur, exposer and informant at the same time.
