Özet
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to establish the impact of foreign trade on economic growth of Somalia. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: to determine the impact of exports on economic growth of Somalia, to investigate the impact of imports on economic growth of Somalia, to establish the impact of trade openness on economic growth of Somalia and to establish the moderating impact of taxation on the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth of Somalia. The study was guided by the theory of comparative advantage, the theory of absolute advantage as well as the neoclassical theory of growth. Correlation research design involving quantitative methods was adopted. Secondary data was collected from World Bank on exports, imports, custom taxes, total tax revenue and gross domestic product as well as the GDP growth rates covering the period of 1960 to 2020. Descriptive statistics covering means and standard deviation, linear and multiple regression analysis were adopted. The findings indicated that exports (r=0. 483, ?=. 324, p<0. 05 & t>1. 96), imports r=. 378, ?=. 069, p<0. 05 & t>1. 96), trade openness (r=0. 479, ?=. 071, p<0. 05 & t>1. 96) all have positive and significant impact on economic growth of Somalia and this relationship is fully moderated by taxation. The study concludes that foreign trade has significant impact on economic growth of Somalia. Keywords: foreign trade, exports, imports, trade openness, taxation, economic growth, Somalia v OZET Bu çalışmanın amacı, dış ticaretin Somali'nin ekonomik büyümesi üzerindeki etkisini belirlemektir. Çalışma, aşağıdaki özel hedefler tarafından yönlendirildi: ihracatın Somali'nin ekonomik büyümesi üzerindeki etkisini belirlemek, ithalatın Somali'nin ekonomik büyümesi üzerindeki etkisini araştırmak, ticari açıklığın Somali'nin ekonomik büyümesi üzerindeki etkisini belirlemek ve Somali'nin dış ticareti ve ekonomik büyümesi arasındaki ilişkide vergilendirmenin düzenleyici etkisi. Çalışma, karşılaştırmalı üstünlük teorisi, mutlak üstünlük teorisi ve neoklasik büyüme teorisi tarafından yönlendirildi. Nicel yöntemleri içeren korelasyon araştırması tasarımı benimsenmiştir. Dünya Bankası'ndan ihracat, ithalat, gümrük vergileri, toplam vergi geliri ve gayri safi yurtiçi hasıla ile 1960-2020 dönemini kapsayan GSYİH büyüme oranları hakkında ikincil veriler toplandı. Ortalama ve standart sapmayı kapsayan tanımlayıcı istatistikler, doğrusal ve çoklu regresyon analizi benimsenmiştir. Bulgular, ihracatın (r=0,483, ?=. 324, p<0. 05 & t>1. 96), ithalatın r=. 378, ?=. 069, p<0. 05 & t>1. 96), ticari açıklığın (r=0. 479) olduğunu göstermiştir. , ?=. 071, p<0. 05 & t>1. 96) hepsinin Somali'nin ekonomik büyümesi üzerinde pozitif ve anlamlı bir etkisi vardır ve bu ilişki tamamen vergilendirme ile yönetilmektedir. Çalışma, dış ticaretin Somali'nin ekonomik büyümesi üzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğu sonucuna varmıştır.
