Özet
İletişim olgusu Antik Çağlar’dan beri Aristoteles gibi düşünürlerin çalışma alanlarının merkezinde yer almıştır. Kitle iletişimine olanak tanıyan araçların toplumlar tarafından içselleştirilmeye başladığı XIX. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısı itibariyle, sosyal bilimlerin farklı inceleme alanları içerisinde “iletişim” alanına yönelik ilgi dikkat çekmektedir. Günümüze kadar uzanan bu süreçte konvansiyonel ve yeni medya araçları, sahip olduğu teknik yeterlilikler paralelinde toplumun tüm faaliyet alanlarını etkilemişlerdir. Böylelikle iletişimin bilimsel bir disiplin haline gelmesi sürecinde kitle iletişim araçları merkezli olarak bilimsel nitelikli araştırmalar yapılmış, model ve kuramlar geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada iletişimin bir bilim olarak biçimlendirilmesinde, söz konusu öncü çabaların etkisinin ne denli belirleyici olduğu ele alınmıştır ve kuramcıların bakış açısına yer verilmiştir.
Since the Ancient Periods, philosophers and scientists like Aristotle had placed the concept of communication in the center of their studies. Many societies were interested in communication science through the second half of the nineteenth century, at that time mass communication tools were internalized by individuals. Down to the present, conventional and new media tools have influenced every aspect of the societies. In the process of communication turning into a scientific discipline, many theories and models have improved. Mass communication tools have been the center of those studies. In this study, perspective of theorists and their pioneering efforts and their studies effects to the communication process as a discipline have been examined.
