Özet

A petrochemical facility is always very risky because the facility contains and handles many highly hazardous materials. So, it is always taken into consideration carefully. Despite carrying out risk assessments and holding all precautions, some catastrophic and severe accidents still occur all around the world within similar vulnerable facilities. It is crucial to be aware of how the accident effects can spread throughout dispersion area and how much serious effects it has and how we can reduce the effects using some software after happening this kind of a catastrophic accident. The aim of this study is measuring the effectiveness of some software on a facility within the residential area in Istanbul, Turkey as a case study. Thus, three of the well-known software are accepted by the academic area have been considered. Using the same values and data for each software, the benefits of each of them were tested to understand. After all, some useful information was provided to understand effects of some software and the importance of using this kind of software for evaluating the later accident precautions to risk managers and to the facility owners as well as to governments. It was also indicated the importance of having the technical information about modeling the scenario for evaluating it correctly by key-persons.
