Abstract
It is becoming increasingly important to support undergraduate and graduate levels of vocational disciplines with research projects that have the design and planning authority related to the environment such as Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning, Architecture, Interior Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning. Particularly, these disciplines, which will have a role in design, planning and management processes of rapidly changing landscapes, need to educate their students who can approach realistic problems with current technology and methods. The acquisition of this properties is possible by integrating both individual and institutional research projects into the education system. In this study, two research projects titled “Istanbul-Besiktas District an Ecological Planning Approach for an Urban Landscape Plan and Implementation Strategy”, related to an urban landscape and “Generating Strategies for Assessing Natural and Cultural Structure Potentials of Bilecik Province, Osmaneli District” focused on a rural landscape, were evaluated in this context. Firstly, analysis and evaluation methods and outputs of these projects were shared with students by organizing workshops, course presentations and conferences. Thereafter the effect of the educational process was discussed. As a result, findings from the research projects have made it possible to discuss basic concepts such as sustainability, holism, interdisciplinary study, public and stakeholder participat ion through real problems and transfer them to undergraduate and graduate level students. This approach shows that it is likely to improve the quality of education in institutions that provide vocational training for environment-related practice. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology.
