Öğe Analysis of wind energy potential of Sakarya-Esentepe region, Turkey(2012) Oral, Faruk; Ekmekçi, İsmail; Onat, NevzatIn this study, the data obtained from the measurements made in the wind measurement station established in Sakarya region are evaluated and the wind energy potential of the region is determined. Wind data were used in ten-minute intervals of 12 months from July 2006 to 2007. In statistical examination of the wind energy potential, the Weibull distribution is used. For this purpose, the MATLAB program was developed for numeric analysis. Besides, in analysis of the wind data and energy calculations, Weibull distribution parameters and frequency distribution of wind speed, dominated wind direction, and the region's annual main power density values have also been identified by the using of the WindPRO and WAsP software. The annual Weibull Fig. parameter (k) and scale parameter (c) were determined as 1.81 and 5.12 m/s for 30m height respectively. According to the Weibull distribution, the annual mean wind speed and power density values for 30m hub height are obtained as 4.55 m/s and 121.01 W/m3, respectively. As a result of this work, annual average wind speed and frequency with energy density is expressed as the sector and changing of the region's annual mean wind speed and power density with numerical height were determined. Analyses of the results show that the wind energy potential of Sakarya-Esentepe region is eligible for electrical power production. © Sila Science.Öğe A study on the analysis of wind measurement data and electrical energy production potential(World Energy Council, 2016) Oral, Faruk; Ekmekçi, İsmailIn recent years, due to the growing problems about fossil fuels such as increasing slopes of reserves reducing and also expanding environmental problems yield countries and also energy companies to increased demand for clean and renewable energy sources all over the world and also over Turkey. Establishing wind energy farms is one of the most rapidly growing businesses among the renewable energy sources installation in terms of the lack of this type of utilization for Turkey and also growing energy supply related to high population growth and rate of economic development and then also due to high rate of imported energy sources. Turkey is one of the rich countries in Europe with respect to wind energy potential, especially for the Marmara and Aegean coastlines of Turkey surrounded with sea sides at its three parts of the boundaries that have regular and continuous wind energy potential. Effective using of this wind energy potential is very crucial for Turkey and it also depends on accurate measurement and careful analysis of that measurements wind energy. Wind speed values such as velocity, frequency and direction distributions are some of the most important values for the calculation of electrical energy production from the selected wind turbines and also selection of the proper types of wind turbines. For this study, wind measurement mast has been established and annual wind measurements from Sakarya-Esentepe region of Turkey have been used for the statistical analysis of wind measurements by using proper softwares for wind energy such as WindPro and WASP then proper types of wind turbines selected and annual electrical energy production has been predicted as an example for this type of wind plant.Öğe Weibull distribution for determination of wind analysis and energy production(Emerald Publishing, 2015) Oral, Faruk; Ekmekçi, İsmail; Onat, NevzatIn recent years, decreasing reserves and environmental problems related with fossil fuels have increased the demand for clean and renewable energy sources, as with all over the world and also in Turkey. Wind energy is the one of the most rapidly growing among the renewable energy sources in terms of technological and utilization. Turkey is one of the rich countries in Europe in respect to wind energy potential. Productive and effective use of this potential is very important for Turkey that is depended on foreign countries especially in respect to fossil energy sources. Wind speed values are the most important data in calculation of electrical energy from wind turbines. In this study, latest developments and energy-power equations related to wind turbines are investigated. Using of the data obtained from the wind measurement station installed in Sakarya-Esentepe region, annual electrical energy production of an example wind plant is predicted.
