Öğe A different perspective to the effective atomic number (Z(eff)) for some boron compounds and trommel sieve waste (TSW) with a new computer program ZXCOM(Elsevier, 2012) Yalçın, Zeynel; İçelli, Orhan; Okutan, Mustafa; Boncukcuoğlu, Recep; Artun, Ozan; Orak, SalimIn this study, the effective atomic number (Z(eff))has been calculated for some boron compounds, such as concentrate colemanite, tincal, ulexite, boric acid, probertite and TSW (Trommel Sieve Waste) by means of ZXCOM at incident beam energy (E-0=59.543 key) and scattering angle (theta=35 degrees). We present and discuss the (Z(eff)) obtained by Rayleigh/Compton (R/C) ratio and evaluated for the purpose of radiation shielding which contains boron compounds, which are commonly used as shield materials. In this study, some gamma-ray photon absorption parameters such as the total mass attenuation coefficients, effective atomic number and electronic density have been investigated for six different pumice samples. Numerous values of energy related parameters from low energy (1 keV) to high energy (100 MeV) were calculated using WinXCom programme. The relationship between radiation shielding properties of the pumice samples and their physical, chemical and electro-kinetic properties was evaluated using simple regression analysis. Simple regression analysis indicated a strong correlation between photon energy absorption parameters and density and SiO 2, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, TiO2 content of pumice samples in this study. It is found that photon energy absorption parameters are not related to electro-kinetic properties of pumice samples. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.Öğe Investigation of shielding properties of some boron compounds(Elsevier Ltd, 2013) İçelli, Orhan; Mann, K.S.; Yalçın, Zeynep; Orak, Salim; Karakaya, VatanGamma and X-ray photon interaction parameters such as the equivalent atomic number (Zeq), effective atomic number Zeff, and exposure and energy absorption buildup factor have been computed for some boron compounds in the energy range of 15–100 keV. We have used WinXCom and ZXCom software to calculate the effective atomic number from Rayleigh/Compton (R/C) ratios. Finally, the selected boron compounds have been analyzed for application as radiation shielding materials. It is concluded that boric acid (M6) and concentrated colemanite (M1) have better shielding capability among the selected samples. © 2013 Elsevier LtdÖğe Measurement of K-shell absorption jump factors and jump ratios in some lanthanide elements using EDXRF technique(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2013) Polat, Recep; İçelli, Orhan; Yalçın, Zeynel; Pesen, Erhan; Orak, Salim59.5 keV gamma rays scattered by an aluminum foil have been used as a radiation source to measure the absorption jump factor and jump ratios for absorbers Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Tb. The theoretical and experimental values are compared with the corresponding ones in the literature.Öğe Resistivity, ESR, and radiation shielding properties of the volcanic rock materials(Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2014) Nuhoğlu, Çiğdem; Tapan, Mucip; Okutan, Mustafa; Aydın, Süreyya; Yalçın, Zeynel; İçelli, Orhan; Kavanoz, H. Birtan; Orak, SalimPumices have been used in cement, concrete, brick, and ceramic industries as an additive and aggregate material. It will be important to study pumice types by using a different tool as EPR which is a new technique for related material to be used for industrial aims. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of the pumice types were taken by EMX-type spectrometer. Also, the current-voltage (I-V) and surface resistivity probe stand of the thin films was studied using a four-point probe measurements. The relationship between radiation shielding properties of the pumice samples and their surface resistivity, chemical, and electrokinetic properties was evaluated using simple regression analysis. Simple regression analysis indicated a strong correlation between surface resistivity and density and SiO2, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, and TiO2 content of pumice samples in this study. It is found that a correlation between determined g-factor by EPR spectroscopy and radiation shielding is established for pumice samples.
