Öğe The Marshall plan: an exercise in United States hegemonic leadership? Insights from international political economy(İstanbul Ticaret Üniversitesi, 2010) Chambers, GaryInternational Political economy (IPE) looks at how the interaction between states and markets involve both conflict and cooperation. For IPE theorists, the stability of the International System requires one dominant state to coordinate and oversee the rules of interaction among the leading members of the system. The aim of this article is to use IPE insights to argue that the United States of America acted less as an altruistic actor in the development and implementation of the Marshall Plan but acted rather in the spirit of a patronal hegemonism that produced positive benefits for the US and western Europe alike.
