Cin, Firdevs Melis2020-11-212020-11-2120172524-6445https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-39104-5_4https://hdl.handle.net/11467/3860This chapter contextualises the socio-political and socio-economic circumstances in which each generation of women’s lives was situated, presents a broader picture of the generational eras and briefly explains the family dynamics and attitudes towards their education and the key aspects of their teaching experiences (a summary-table of the women and their ‘key characteristics’ is given in Appendix B). This chapter does not give a detailed account of each generation and woman, but teases out the rigour in women’s lives in order to make sense of their experiences in Chaps. 5, 6 and 7. It also explains my label for each generation of women without suggesting that interviewees from respective generation are all alike.
