Bir ülkenin internet ekonomisinin büyüklüğü, e-ticaret, sosyal ağ, devlet, yatırım, tüketim harcamaları, milli gelire katkı, online satış, e-ödemeler, online reklamcılık, mobil kullanım ve tüketici faydasına bakılarak ölçülmektedir. Bu çalışmada “direkt etki” adı verilen bu ölçümleme metodu dünyanın en büyük yirmi ülkesini oluşturan G20 ve bu grup içerisinde yer alan Türkiye için araştırılmıştır. Yapılan karşılaştırmalarda Türkiye’nin online reklamcılık, sosyal ağ, mobil kullanımda G20 ülkeleri arasında iyi performans sergilediği, GSMH’ ye katkı, e-ticaret, online perakende ve ödemeler konusunda da ilerleme kaydetmesi gerektiği ortaya konmuştur.The internet economy which is an impulsive force for an economy and a key for growth and development, is the economy based on the digital technologies. The volume of the internet economy can be measured by e-commerce, social networking, government, investment and consumption expenditures, contribution to GSMH, online retail, e-payments, online advertisements, mobile connectivity and consumer surplus.
